“Jim. Fancy doing a blog for us?” When Knockhill managing director Jillian Shedden comes knocking on your door with an offer like that, generally you don’t say no. So welcome to the first of what will be a regular blog from me, Jim McGill.
So, what’s the blog going to be about? Anything and everything really. I’m in the very fortunate position that I spend my life writing not only about motorsport — essentially from a Scottish perspective — but I travel the world attending the launch drives of new cars which will hit our showrooms. Is it a job? I guess it is; but I’m the first to realise and accept it’s probably the best ‘job’any journalist keen on anything with four wheels could ever aspire to.
So. The point of the blog? The primary aim is to combine behind-the-scenes views and opinions from launches of new cars — we’ll not be carrying full roadtests, though you can read them every Friday in The Herald’s motoring supplement — plus news from not only Scotland’s principal racing drivers, but also the up-and-coming stars of the future.
Sure there will be glimpses of the five-star, over-the-top treatment we motoring hacks get; but there will also be stories of the other side, like standing at Knockhill for hours, in the cold, biting wind and driving rain watching cars go round, and round, and round, and …
But it’s also a forum for you to express your views and opinions. Agree or disagree with anything I say, then this is your chance to air your thoughts. Life’s too short, so let’s have some fun!
JM
Really looking forward to reading your blog Jim!
