Round 4 of the 2016 SLS Championship season will see another bumper entry take to the Knockhill Reverse track on Saturday 30th July, as competitors look to secure that perfect lap around the anti-clockwise configuration at Scotland’s National Motorsport Centre.

For the 2nd year running, the SLS competitors will also be joined by a number of British Sprint competitors who’ll take to the Reverse track in an array of stunningly quick single seat racers – akin to Formula One cars. Familiar faces, such as Steve Miles, Terry Holmes and Graham Porrett will join ‘home’ favourites Louise, Heather and Colin Calder in their Jedi and Gould GR55 racers respectively. And, currently it is Colin Calder who leads the way in the Championship, just four points ahead of Miles and five ahead of his daughter Heather.

Additionally, the MG Trophy will make a return to Knockhill this weekend with several Scots chasing podiums in the top two classes. On Saturday the MG racers will enjoy a 30 minute practice session as they prepare for Sunday’s race meeting and the two Stewart Robertson Memorial races – in memory of Colin Robertson’s father – Colin is also one of two Scots (Methven) looking for success in Class A aboard his 190bhp MG ZR.

Sunday Activity:

Sunday 31st July will see the Super Lap Scotland competitors return for a second day of competition as they compete in Round 5 of the 2016 season. The Super Lap Scotland Championship consists of up to 60 racers all competing on track throughout the day to set their fastest time around the clockwise circuit. Cars in the Championship range from super-tuned 1000bhp monsters like Paul Rankin’s Subaru Impreza RB320 and Eric Holmes’ impressive Mitsubishi Evo (Pro class), through to Paul Wilson’s road-going Renault Clio – competing in class F. The scale, range and diversity of vehicles on show showcases just what SLS is – a bridge between street/trackday driving and full-blown circuit racing. It’s a great place to learn circuit driving and enter into timed competition at an associated price. Quite simply, you could compete in your daily-driver, indeed a quarter of the cars competing on track will be driven to and from the circuit.

We mentioned Rankin and Holmes’ car for a good reason. Sunday 31st July will also see us host a Subaru Vs Mitsubishi car show with a plethora of Show ‘n’ Shine awards for the best looking cars in class – all showcased via Scotland’s top Subaru and Mitsubishi Owners’ Clubs (Scottish Subaru Owners’ Club, Scottish Scoobies.net and MLR (Mitsubishi Club) and private owners looking to show their cars alongside a swathe of models from the popular Japanese marques.

Topping the Subaru Vs Mitsubishi bill however, will be two of the most memorable cars from the two brands’ history. Firstly, Colin McRae’s WRC Championship winning Subaru Impreza will be on show – kindly supplied by the McRae family and Tommi Makinen’s 1999 WRC Championship winning Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI will also be at Knockhill this weekend kindly supplied by its current owner. If you’d like to see these legendary cars in the flesh… then you know where to head this weekend.

The British Sprint competitors will also be back out on Sunday 31st July for another time-trial event at Knockhill. Last year Terry Holmes powered his Lola Tegra Judd to an overall win around the Clockwise circuit – becoming the first driver to cull the Heather/Colin Calder dominance of the Knockhill event for several years. No-doubt the Calder’s will be eyeing further success at their home track – only time will tell – and the fastest time at that!

The MG racers will also get their taste of competitive action on track on Sunday 31st July as they compete in two 20 lap – Stewart Robertson Memorial Races – Championship race. The MG Trophy, open to MG ZR race cars and race-prepared road cars offers competitors single-make Championship racing spread across three different classes (A, B and C) and Knockhill this weekend will see 21 racers compete outright for the win. It’s the only racing action this weekend with the event biased towards time-based sprint events.

Additionally on Sunday, we’ll also see the 2nd round of the all-new Scottish GK Championship – a precision/autotest driving event that sees drivers compete head-to-head on a pre-determined track. Indeed, the SGK Championship will welcome some of Europe’s elite drivers who’ll be using the event as a warm up to a world-renowned event taking place in Athens this year. The competition is open to three separate classes All-Wheel-Drive, Rear-Wheel-Drive and Front-Wheel-Drive and newcomers are welcome. If you fancy pitting your driving skills against some of Europe’s best drivers then head along to Knockhill this weekend. It’s simple to get involved, just sign up on the day (£60) and you could be on your way to SGK stardom. All you’ll need is your driving licence, a helmet and a car, naturally. Road cars are welcome and if you have a track car you’d like to use, scrutineering will take place from 9.15am onwards at Knockhill. Practice starts from 10am to 1pm, so there’s plenty of time to come along and scope things out before putting your reputation and your skills to the test. It’s great fun to watch and even better to compete in.

As you can see from above, a jam-packed of sprint and racing awaits this weekend and we hope you can join us!

Tickets for the event can be booked online via the Knockhill website with advanced booking discounts available on all pre-booked tickets until midnight, the night before you plan to attend. Weekend tickets are also available.
