In the latest ‘Dunc Drives’ vlog, SLS commentator Duncan Vincent steps back a few classes to sample Stevie McNab’s Renault Clio 172 that he competes in Super Lap Scotland’s Class E.
Stevie’s car is completely different to Alex Milne’s Audi TT RS Plus – which Dunc drove in episode one. Alex’s car is full of all the mod cons, comfortable seats and all the luxury you’d expect from a high-end road-car manufacturer. Whereas, Stevie’s home built track car is brash, rugged and couldn’t be further away from the cosy Audi cockpit if it tried. So with that in mind, Dunc took to the track to sample the 152bhp Clio around the twists and dips of Knockhill to see just what McNab experiences over the course of a typical SLS meeting.
McNab had a good solid year in Class E during 2017 – ending the season in third place behind Michael Foster and Fraser Jamieson – both Renault Clio drivers. McNab even took a memorable win at Round 4 way back in July and was extremely consistent with his times throughout the year. Over the winter Stevie has a number of plans to try and find that final 8bhp that will take him to the limit of Class E – but potentially to Class E Championship glory in 2018.
Like Stevie, you too can compete in your own track car at Knockhill SLS events in 2018. For further information and eligibility check out the Super Lap Scotland website or contact Championship co-ordinator Rory Butcher by emailing rory@superlapscotland.co.uk.
