It seems a long time ago that we played tennis on the start-finish straight with a diminutive Taz and a scrawny Taylor to promote an upcoming club event at Knockhill. The boys have come along way since then, winning the British Supersport and National Superstock 1000 titles respectively along the way.
Dad Niall continues to play a role at Knockhill with regular visits for his Niall Mackenzie Trackday (in-which the boys now appear as regular instructors) and in his capacity of President of the Knockhill Motor Sports Club.
So, when the opportunity arises, it’s always good to catch up with the trio to see how their season’s are progressing and to chat all things BSB and motorbike racing. First up it’s Taz, currently riding the wheels of his McAMS Yamaha in Britain’s premier motorcycle racing championship – The Bennetts British Superbike Championship – which visits Knockhill in just under 6 weeks time. Already an outright race winner in the top class in only his second full season in the series and jointly leading the BSB standings in 2019.
Here’s what he had to say to DuncV:
Taylor Mackenzie heads into his other ‘home’ circuit this weekend just 8 points off the Pirelli Superstock 1000 Championship lead. DuncV caught up with Tmac at a recent Niall Mackenzie Trackday to find out how he’s feeling heading into Donington Circuit this weekend.
If having two sons competing in one if the toughest domestic bike racing championships in the world wasn’t enough, Niall Mackenzie still manages to squeeze in commentary gigs for Moto GP, BSB on Eurosport and make various VIP appearances over a BSB weekend as well. No wonder he’s getting by on the sheer adrenaline.
The Knockhill BSB is going to be spectacular this year.
