Once again the second Bennetts British Superbike Championship free practice of the day got underway in dry and sunny conditions. And, once again the Be Wiser Ducati duo of Josh Brookes and Scott Redding were right on the pace with Josh Brookes taking P3 and Scott Redding rounding out only his second full session at Knockhill in 1st place. A later tumble for Brookes going through the Chicane ruled the Austrailian rider out of the remainder of the session leaving Redding to top the timesheets in FP2 with a blistering 47.667 second effort.
FS-3 Racing Kawasaki rider Danny Buchan, runner up in the opening session of the day and a rider that both Stuart Easton and Knockhill’s own Gordon Shedden are tipping for the win this weekend finished his session off with a time of 47.748secs to end the session in second place, once again.
No less than 7 riders dropped below the 48 second bracket with Brookes, Mossey, Linfoot, Ray and O’Halloran all dipping into the 47-second lap times; with Tyco BMW Motorrad rider Keith Farmer posting a last gasp 47 second effort to take 4th place on the timings.
Scottish hopes remain high after McAMS Yamaha rider Tarran Mackenzie posted a strong 48.121sec lap time to end the session in 10th position. An earlier fall for Mackenzie at the Hairpin perhaps put Taz on the back foot for the remainder of the session. Fellow McAMS rider Jason O’Halloran who suffered a small off at Clark corner in this morning’s session was back out to finish off his day’s work in 8th position.
With 19 of the riders all within 1 second of each other, Free Practice 3 tomorrow should be another good indicator of who will be fast this weekend. Then, at 4pm on Saturday we move into the all-important Datatag Extreme Qualifying Session which will see the front row decided for the opening race on Sunday 30th June – a 30 lap affair around the twists and dips of the Knockhill track.
Tickets for the today’s action are available at the gate if you fancy coming along. Tickets for the weekend will be available online, subject to box office collection all the way up to midnight the night before each weekend day.
Hope you’ll join us.
