It was great to finally kick off the 2020 Knockhill motor racing season when we hosted our first Super Lap Scotland event on Sunday. Despite the new coronavirus measures and some last-minute Motorsports UK guidance, the event passed off successfully and we’re sure the drivers were delighted to finally sample some fast-paced motorsport action following a prolonged lay-off.
Action came from the eight SLS classes with a whole host of vehicles on track, ably supported by the all-new ModSports series that see’s Saloons and Sports Car racers join ranks with the BMW Compact Cup. A great grid entered the opening races of the season and we’re hopeful of more joining the fray as the year progresses.
Unfortunately, fans still weren’t permitted to attend Knockhill, and this will likely be the case for the next instalment of SLS and Mod Sports when the drivers arrive for Rounds 2/3 on 22-23 August. Joining us that weekend will be the Northern Saloons and Sports Car Championship and the Junior Saloon Car Championship – adding yet more competitive racing to a jam-packed weekend of action.
Despite, fans missing out, we’ll pulled together a few highlights from the weekend with more video action being released on the Super Lap Scotland Facebook Page very soon.
In the meantime, we’d like to thank everyone for turning out at the weekend – marshals, officials, medics and of course the drivers who make up Super Lap Scotland and Mod Sports.
Hopefully, we’ll have fans back at racedays before too long. Until then… stay safe.
