BTCC to run behind closed doors this weekend! Please do not travel to the Circuit as you will be refused entry, sorry.
If you are following the races from home this weekend, tune into ITV2 on Sunday instead of ITV for all the coverage. Embedded below is the event programme with timetables, features and the handy spotter guides for identifying your favourite racers on TV. You can also listen to live comms via the BTCC app all weekend.
We were all delighted to hear that the Scottish Government had signalled that live events could take place in Scotland once again from 24th August – subject to guidelines, we were excited to see how that would effect the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship event set to take place at Knockhill, next weekend.
Follow up conversations took place where it was confirmed that we could have 200 spectators to our venue for the British Touring Car event on 29/30 August. It’s a tremendous step forward for Scotland, however, the new guidelines just don’t go far enough for us to effectively manage the needs of our customers. We have over 600 season pass holders alone, not to mention the thousands of customers who have pre-booked tickets from all over the UK to attend the event.
There is, unfortunately, no fair way to determine who should be allocated one of those very limited 200 tickets, so therefore we have sadly taken the decision to run the British Touring Car event behind closed doors.
Jillian Shedden, Knockhill Managing Director said:
“Like many fans we are bitterly disappointed with today’s news. We had put in place an effective plan to manage a limited crowd at the British Touring Car event, commensurate with the size and scale of our 220 acre venue. “Unfortunately, the number we had planned for didn’t quite match the government’s figure and we’ve taken the decision to host the event without spectators next weekend.
“Although we are disappointed, we must all bare in mind that these rules and regulations are in place for the best reasons… to protect public health. I’m sure the Knockhill round will be as spectacular as ever next weekend and I’d urge race fans to tune into ITV4 to watch all the action live.”
If you have purchased a ticket for the BTCC event at Knockhill, you will receive an email within the coming days with your relevant ticket options. Again, we are sorry that race fans won’t be allowed to attend next weekend, but we are hopeful that we’ll have spectators back on the bankings for some of the remaining events in 2020.
We’ll keep you all updated as best we can over the coming weeks.
