Our Mod Sports Championship also returns for 2022, with another strong line-up of saloon and sports car racers set to tackle the 1.27 miles of Knockhill’s Reverse Circuit this weekend. In a change to the usual Clockwise opening encounters of the season, the opening two races of the season will be fought out over the twists and turns of the Reverse track. Given that it will be a while since the competitors raced the anti-clockwise configuration, we expect the general testing before the event to be full with racers looking to get their eye back into the anti-clockwise layout of Knockhill.
As for entries, Ron Cumming returns for 2022 in his ridiculously fast Nemesis Kit Car and is joined in Mod Sport Class A by Roddy Paterson (Caterham) and Stewart Robb (TVR Tuscan). Class G looks to be the most likely candidate to have the closest racing action on Sunday with seven competitors set to race it out over the two 15 minute + 1 Lap races.
The Mod Sports races will also see a couple of newcomers enter the mix for 2022. In what will be a family affair, Cameron Chalmers (boyfriend) of Louise Strachan (Class G) will make his racing debut and race head-to-head against not only his girlfriend, but her father James in the same class – all driving similar Mini Cooper S race cars. And, the family ties don’t stop there. On the tools for all three cars over the weekend will be Cameron’s Dad (Mark), who’ll also be lead mechanic on Murray Douglas’ car as well – wonder if the commentators will be able to work all this out over the course of the day.
Additionally, young Cian Sheilds will be making his Mod Sports debut. This young man is looking for signatures on his licence – hence the toe-dipping appearance at Knockhill this weekend. But really, Cian’s targets are firmly set on the GB3 Championship where he races a Tatuus MSV-022 for HiTech GP in the UK’s leading Single Seater race category. Cian has a strong Karting background which includes a third place finish in the European Kart Championship and has a number of Scottish Karting Championships to his name as well. This weekend he’ll switch from the compact cockpit of a single seater to the more roomier surroundings of a BMW 2 Series.
The Mod Sports racers will start their day at 13:10 with a 15 minute qualifying session. They’ll then enjoy two races at approximately 14:20pm and 16:20pm. Remember, timing are provisional and subject to change on the day.
The event this weekend will kick off at approximately 12:30pm. Remember, this is a half day format for this event only and we’d expect to return to full day events from Round 2 and onwards. As such the ticket pricing structure has been reduced. Anyone who previously purchased a ticket, will have been contacted about refunds and credits.
Some of the racing towards the tail end of last year was superb, as you’ll see from some of the highlights from above, and we are very much looking forward to more of the same this weekend.
Hopefully you’ll join us for another motorsport feast this Sunday (24th April). Tickets can be bought online in advance or at the gate on the day. Booking in advance is a straight-forward process with e-tickets issued instantly for distribution. Then on raceday, it’s simply a case of scanning your tickets on arrival and entering the venue to enjoy the day’s action on track.
Provisional Entry List – subject to change.
