Unfortunately, due to flight cancellations in Sweden, 1984 World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist has had to withdraw from the 2022 running of the McRae Rally Challenge. Stig who was set to compete in the Rally alongside two-time World Championship winning co-driver Luis Moya has fallen victim to widespread flight disruptions affecting many travellers across the UK and Europe. With no viable alternative for the former Group B rallying legend – this year’s McRae Rally Challenge will go ahead without the popular Swede.
Moya himself, will still be attending the event and will now assume a role front and centre being one of the hosts on the Ouninpohja Stage where he will interview many of the other star guests and participate in the fans’ forum on Saturday evening.
“It’s unfortunate that the Rally has been robbed of Stig and his iconic Magnum and Quattro, but the content and presence of Luis, and the many other stars and cars will still hopefully be an ample incentive to entice rally fans to Knockhill this weekend.
“We spent most of the day yesterday trying to get Stig an alternative route to Scotland; but given the late nature of the cancellation and the all the logistics in play it just wasn’t feasible. Stig is obviously extremely disappointed to be missing out this time around, given how much he enjoyed the first event in 2015… but it just wasn’t meant to be,” said Event Director Stuart Gray.
Tickets for the 2nd running of the McRae Rally Challenge are still available online via the Knockhill website, tickets will also be available on the gate throughout the weekend for anyone who fancies turning up on the day.
