The hybrid era of Touring Car racing comes to Knockhill for the first time this weekend (30/31 July) and with the help of BTCC legend and Halford Racing with Cataclean’s Matt Neal we’ve compiled a quick 3-minute guide to what to expect this weekend throughout qualifying and the racing, when it comes to the use of the all-new hybrid system.
The main points of note are as follows:
- Qualifying hybrid usage is allocated in seconds – from 0 to a maximum of 15 depending on where each driver sits in the current standings heading into the event.
- Racing hybrid allocation is based on laps – all drivers get 15 seconds of hybrid deployment – laps are lost depending on how successful the driver’s results have been. Whereas those towards the rear of the standings will have 15 seconds of hybrid for the whole race.
- A blue light will illuminate on the side of the vehicle when the hybrid deployment is being used.
- Drivers can use the deployment both to attack a position on track, as well as to defend his position on track.
- Teams and drivers will undoubtedly use the hybrid at various points on the track – yes, the Knockhill Hairpin is the most likely candidate, but keep your eyes peeled for more interesting and unique deployments.
We can’t wait to welcome the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship back to Knockhill for two pulsating days of race action. Some of the support teams have been here all week testing and with some incredibly quick lap times already on paper, these will only intensify as we head into the races this weekend.
We have testing action all-day on Friday for all the support classes (no action on Thursday) if you want to come along and see the cars before the race action gets underway at the weekend.
Please also note, that all our disabled parking inside the venue has been pre-allocated to all those who have purchased tickets in advance. Any blue badge holders arriving at the venue over Saturday and Sunday will be directed to public parking.
Tickets for the event can still be booked online via the Knockhill website. Alternatively, tickets will be available on the gate all weekend.
Check out the Knockhill website for more info, ticket pricing and to see the timetable of racing.
