Super Lap Scotland – Knockhill Racing Circuit https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress Fri, 03 Jun 2022 17:36:30 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.2.19 Andy Forrest sets sights on new PB this weekend. https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2022/06/andy-forrest-sets-sights-on-new-pb-this-weekend/ Fri, 03 Jun 2022 17:36:27 +0000 https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/?p=24812 With the British Superbike testing now done and dusted, it’s time for another weekend of car action at Knockhill. With the Superbike riders hitting low 47-second lap times around Knockhill this week, it’s not often you can point out a car which would match those times around Knockhill – and a home-built car at that.

Well fans who are attending this weekend might just see Andy Forrest eclipse even those Superbike lap times following another winter upgrade programme on his ridiculously quick AFP Westfield V8.

Now Andy’s never one for predictions, and a lot of things can happen on the day, but let’s just say that if he doesn’t reach LOW/MID 46-second lap times… he’ll be disappointed. Mind blowing stuff and a sight we can’t wait to witness this weekend.

“I’ve been pottering away in the shed this winter adding some subtle upgrades to the car,” quipped Andy.

“The clutch was our weakest link last season and it dictated how much boost we could run on the car. This year, we’ve gone for a much larger clutch, although slightly heavier, it will allow us to wind up the boost to help deliver quicker lap times. We’ve done over 200 miles to bed the clutch in… let’s just say that was fun.

“We’ve also gone a bit wider on the rear tyres, I had some old 12” wide rims from a few years ago and so we’ve made them fit the car. Other than that, a few suspension tweaks to the rear while we do some comparative testing… and we’re good to go – weather dependant this weekend’, concluded Andy.

Andy has already run those upgrades on track this year and staggering results. This machine is worth the entry fee to this weekend’s event on its own; one of these days the Westfield is going to light up on track and send Andy back to 1955 – Back to the Future style.

Andy will be out in Super Lap Scotland (ProX) class this weekend. We also have our biggest racing entry for a KMSC car race meeting with 50 Caterham Graduates and 8 VW Cup entries joining our regular ModSport and Scottish Legends competitors for two-days of full-on race action.

If you’d like to attend, tickets can be booked online via the Knockhill website, tickets will also be available on the day at the gate.

Super Lap Scotland 2022 – Ready for Round 1 https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2022/04/super-lap-scotland-2022-ready-for-round-1/ Thu, 21 Apr 2022 11:17:20 +0000 https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/?p=24709 This weekend (Sunday 24th April), we kickstart our 2022 season for the Super Lap Scotland, Mod Sports and Legends racers. This half day format (starting at 12:30pm) will be jam-packed with action from the three-competing series.

The day’s action will commence with a number of practice/familiarisation sessions for all competitors before we head into the competitive action on track with qualifying and the finals/races.

A slightly reduced SLS field will get underway for the opening round with several of the big hitters in each class unable to attend this event. However, that bodes well for the remaining competitors to steal a march on their rivals in terms of championship points.

Former King of the Hill winner, Paul Rankin will lead the assault in the Pro class behind the wheel of his Westfield Kit Car. Nev Wood, who secured his maiden Pro category win last year will be looking to challenge behind the wheel of his powerful Ariel Atom.

Craig Nicol returns for 2022 looking to secure another Class A title win. He’ll be hoping to see off fellow Class A driver Andy Clotworthy in his Subaru Impreza this weekend. Both Michael Osborne Junior and Senior will again battle it out on track for the honours in Class C. The duo fought tooth-and-nail last year with Junior eventually pipping Dad to the 2021 title. It will be interesting to see if Senior can go one better in 2022.

Class E – one of the most popular classes and as cut-throat as it gets in Super Lap Scotland, returns in 2022 with a gaggle of drivers looking to make their mark. Defending class and King of the Hill Champion Martin Brown misses out for round one and that should give those entered this weekend an opportunity to hit the ground running and stamp their own mark on Class E this weekend.

In Class F, we’ll see a four-way battle this weekend between Tom Lockhart, Andrew Fahey, Simon McWilliam and David Capstick; these drivers will be close on the times so it will be interesting to see who pulls together the perfect lap come Sunday evening.

SLS finals action from 2021

Provisional entry list – subject to change!

SLS warm up will take place at 12:30pm and 13:35pm, followed by the all-important qualifying session at 14:45pm. The Super Lap Scotland competitors will then be on track for the final time from 15:35pm as we see who rounds out the winners of each class.

Tickets for this event have been reduced due to the half-day nature of the event running from 12:30pm to 5pm. Adult pricing is £10, 65+/Disabled/Student is £8 and Teen tickets are just £6. Kids under the age of 12 go free to all Knockhill events in 2022.

Super Lap Scotland finale recap https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2020/10/super-lap-scotland-finale-recap/ Mon, 19 Oct 2020 14:39:47 +0000 https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/?p=23979 Yesterday at Knockhill, we rounded out our Super Lap Scotland Championship and Mod Sports Series for 2020. We welcomed a number of visiting race series to Knockhill which culminated in our biggest entry of the season.

It was all action on track, with a jam-packed timetable that took us into darkness to complete. It was cool to see the glowing brake discs of the Mod Sports racers as they slammed on the anchors heading into the hairpin as the light faded rapidly!

Conditions on track were tricky for most of the day, but still provided some thrilling competition in all the competing series. In SLS, we had a season-high of seven cars competing in the Pro class – and it was former King of the Hill, Andy Forrest who took the points win. Forrest (54.499s) though, wasn’t the fastest on the time sheets as Simon Bainbridge in his SB Racing Chrono clocked a 52.668s lap in damp conditions at Knocklhill (Guest). Matty Lawson took P3 on the day, and although points are still provisional, it looks like he’ll wrap up the Pro Class Championship win for 2020.

In Class A, SLS stalwart David Long faced-off against the impressive Radical of Gordon Duncan; with Duncan clocking a time of 58.042s to claim the Class A honours on the day. Class B was always going to be a close run thing with Andy Clotworthy and Robbie Wyper going hard at it all season. But, on the day it was Wyper who managed to pull his Super Lap together for a time of 57.626s, 1.5s ahead of Clotworthy.

Francis Simpson has been in spectacular form this season (Class C), claiming outright wins multiple times this year in his Honda Civic. He took another victory on Sunday with an impressive sub-minute lap ahead of both Michael Osborne Junior and Senior. Class D honours wen to Yumen Lai, who managed to fend of returning SLS’er Stevie McNab and former King of the Hill, Martin Brown.

The bragging rights in Class E went to Fraser McNeill who powered his Honda Civic to the win by the slenderest of margins, beating Robert Wilkie in his Renault Megane by just 0.298s.  Class F had a healthy entry and was extremely competitive with the top three finishers in class ending the day within one second of each other. Points wise, Robert Jobson claimed the spoils claiming P2 on the road ahead of Michael Imrie in third. However, although competing as a guest, Alan Kirkcaldy stormed to the top of the time sheets with a time of 1:02.903s in his Renault Clio 182. It would be interesting to hear what the versatile and accomplished competitor thought about his first SLS experience.

In Class G, Adam Morrison has been the man to beat all season and he rounded out his season with another win in his Mini Cooper – claiming top spot ahead of Josh Hislop and Mark Geraghty. Geraghty, along with five fellow SLS’ers went on to compete in the Mod Sport races (Super Lap Race Series – which gives SLS drivers the opportunity to go racing and compete in SLS, all on the same day).

The opening Mod Sports race was a close run thing as Ron Cumming secured victory ahead of Paul Brydon by just 0.5secs. Brydon pushed hard all race but just couldn’t make any significant move stick on Cumming’s super-fast Nemesis. Brydon would round out the second race as victor, crossing the finish line ahead of Roddie Paterson and Paul Rankin – glowing brake discs and all.

In the Formula Ford races, Jordan Gronkowski took a comfortable win in the opening race by 12 seconds, with Logan Hannah and Matthew Chisholm coming home 2nd and 3rd respectively. That win, along with Gronkowski’s recent dominance of the FF scene in Scotland made him odds on favourite to take his second David Leslie trophy race win in two years. However, Logan Hannah put on a spectacular display to give Gronkowski a run for his money.

Hannah took the lead with a brave move heading into Duffus Dip and held on for a couple of laps before Gronkowski made his move at the Hairpin to retake the lead. Two laps later, again at Duffus Dip, Hannah was back in the lead and set about fending off Gronkowski’s charge for the remaining laps of the race to come home first. A famous victory indeed, the first female to win the David Leslie Trophy and a massive shot in the arm for Hannah as she heads South for the Walter Hayes and Formula Ford Festival races.

On their second visit of the season to Knockhill, The Northern Saloons and Sports Car Championship played out three races around the twists and dips of Knockhill. The on-the-road victories went to Jon Woolfitt (x2) and Gary Bowers (x1). The Scottish Legends cars also enjoyed three races at Knockhill on Sunday 18th October. Steven McGill secured two heat victories ahead of Stewart Black with just 0.379s and 0.369s separating the duo in each heat. With McGill failing to finish the final race of the day, Black went onto claim the win ahead of James Hall-Morton (Guest) by just 0.164s. It was great to see so many Legends back out on track at Knockhill, hopefully, we’ll see fuller grids across the board next year when things, hopefully, return to normal.

That rounds out our 2020 KMSC racing season, a big thanks to all the bike and car racers who have participated in one of our events this year, and a very big thank you to all those behind the scenes that have helped us deliver race events in very challenging circumstances.

See you all in 2021.

SLS Round 4 Highlights https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2020/10/sls-round-4-highlights/ Sat, 17 Oct 2020 14:59:07 +0000 https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/?p=23977 This weekend, we’ll round out the 2020 Super Lap Scotland and Mod Sports Series season with our final event of the year on Sunday 18th October. This event will once again be run behind closed doors with approved guests only.

It’s great to have such a healthy entry for this weekend’s event, despite what’s going on in the wider world. Indeed, it’s the biggest entry so far this season backed up with a number of additional racing series competing at Knockhill this weekend including:

– Northern Saloons and Sports Car Championship
– Formula Ford Renegade Cup and David Leslie Trophy Race
– Scottish Legends Cars Racing

Check out the event programme below:

Aside from looking ahead to this weekend’s action, we should also tip at hat to what happened at Round 4 of the Super Lap Scotland Championship season. In association with BeckSport Media, you can now watch all the action from the last round below:

Heading into this weekend, Class wins will be the order of the day. Some classes are more straight forward than others, but with healthy grid numbers in all the classes, we should see some compelling action on track this weekend.

Check out main social media channels for updates over the course of the weekend and we look forward to welcoming fans back to Knockhill in 2021… all being well.

SLS & SMRC events at Knockhill https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2020/09/sls-smrc-events-at-knockhill/ Fri, 11 Sep 2020 20:31:26 +0000 https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/?p=23945 Knockhill will host two motorsport events this weekend. On Saturday we will play host to the opening SMRC race meeting of the season, whilst on Sunday we’ll be hosting the 4th round for the Super Lap Scotland and Mod Sports Series.

Unfortunately, both events will once again be run behind closed doors – with only team personnel and competitors allowed entry to the venue. Both the SMRC and KMSC will run condensed half-day events this weekend with all the action being compressed into an afternoon of motorsport action.

Below is the programme and entry list for the SLS event on Sunday. The SMRC programme and event details can be found on their official website.

Additionally, as we head into Round 4 for the SLS competitors, here’s an opportunity to catch up with what happened at Round 3 with our SLS highlights programme – courtesy of BeckSport Media and resident Knockhill commentator Duncan Vincent.

We remain hopeful that race fans will be able to return to the venue very soon. We’ll keep you all updated with any news on our website and across our social media platforms.
