Lloyd does the TCR UK double at Knockhill https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2018/05/lloyd-does-the-tcr-uk-double-at-knockhill/ Sun, 13 May 2018 14:18:25 +0000 http://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2018/05/ The action got underway for the second TCR UK Championship race of the day and it was immediately bad news for Laser Tools Racing’s Aiden Moffat. A broken driveshaft – similar to the issue that caused him to retire from race one – meant the young Scot would have to sit out the remaining race of the day, compounding a rather unlucky weekend for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta driver.

TCRP1

Race one winner Dan Lloyd started the encounter from the back of the grid and knew that the race would be a long one and a sensible approach would likely pay dividends towards the end – with 30 or so laps around the Knockhill track ahead.

Sean Walkinshaw took advantage of his pole position to lead into the opening corner, despite some contact from behind from Lewis Kent. Kent went onto overtake Walkinshaw on the approach to Clark corner and lead the race for a number of laps before he had to enter the pits for a tyre change to his Hyundai i30 N TCR. Finaly Crocker’s poor weekend at Knockhill was compounded when he left the track at Clark’s and immediately retired from the race.

As the race continued to rumble on, Lloyd began to make his move up the order, picking his way past his fellow competitors lap-by-lap in his West Coast Racing Volkswagen Golf TCR. Meanwhile there was a ferocious battle for the podium positions as Josh Price firstly got past Walkinshaw and then Kent to take the lead.

IST_0930

However, with little less than eleven laps on the clock (ten mins into the race) Lloyd took the lead and from there edged out a gap of 1.6 seconds ahead of debutant Price. To Price’s credit, his lap times were certainly on a par with Lloyd in his Autoglym BMR Academy Car and a safety car period – issued after a collision with Ollie Taylor and Jessica Backman at the Hairpin – would offer the young BTCC star another crack at Lloyd in the dying stages.

However, a prolonged safety car period meant the race would come down to a single lap shootout around the Reverse Track to decide the winner, and Lloyd, using all his previous experience got the jump and wrapped up a memorable double at Knockhill – continuing his 100% winning streak in the TCR UK Series.

That brings to an end, a monumental week at Knockhill that has seen almost 193 racers on site – compete across a number of BRSCC organised Championships as well as a first ever race meeting for TCR UK around Knockhill. It’s felt like a BTCC weekend here and that bodes well for Knockhill race fans – as we could quite possibly have another bumper event to add to our calendar for years to come as TCR UK undoubtedly grows.

Thanks to everyone involved for another memorable weekend at Knockhill. Hopefully, we’ll see you all again under the same bright blue skies that have graced us this weekend as some point in the very near future.

Lloyd reigns supreme at Knockhill https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2018/05/lloyd-reigns-supreme-at-knockhill/ Sun, 13 May 2018 10:46:18 +0000 http://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2018/05/ Following some overnight investigations, the TCR UK grid woke up this morning to a complete reshuffle with pole setter from yesterday Dan Lloyd demoted to the rear of the grid. That meant that local man Aiden Moffat would start the first ever TCR race at Knockhill from pole position.

ISP_9187

However, a last minute decision to revert to the original positions caused a reshuffle on the grid before race one. Once things got underway it was a relatively straight-forward win for Dan Lloyd – despite a safety car period mid race that ruined an 8 second gap at the head of the field.

“After all that went on overnight I was glad to get my pole position back, I felt l deserved it. After all the pre-race goings on, I was really revved up by the time we started the race. I was angry on the out lap and managed to build up a lot of heat in the tyres that helped when we got underway.

“I was gutted when the safety car came out, but when I heard Aiden had to stop that made life a little bit easier.”

ISP_9158

If it was straight-forward for Dan Lloyd, it certainly wasn’t for his fellow competitors. Thrills and spills galore littered the field with almost all the drivers having some sort of off-track excursion at some point. Ollie Taylor climbed and fell the order on multiple occasions and battled back well from several offs to get himself on the podium – finishing the race in P2 overall.

Joining Lloyd and Taylor on the podium was young BTCC racer Josh Price. Price raced his way from the back of the grid for a tremendous 3rd place finish in race one. Local hero, Aiden Moffat had to retire his Laser Tools Racing Alfa Romeo Giulietta following a technical fault (driveshaft); whilst, teammate Derek Palmer Junior rounded out the race in P6.

ISP_9112

There was a last lap collision between Wilson and Crocker who both had eventful races to say the least. The next TCR action get underway at 14.25pm today – which will see another FREE grid walk for race fans before the off.

Tickets for today’s event can be purchased at the gate. We still have a lot of racing to get through this afternoon and if this morning’s TCR UK Championship race is a benchmark, we’re in for a good day of racing.

Lloyd pips Moffat to TCR UK pole https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2018/05/lloyd-pips-moffat-to-tcr-uk-pole/ Sat, 12 May 2018 09:03:38 +0000 http://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2018/05/ Daniel Lloyd drove his West Coast Racing Volkswagen Golf TCR car to pole position for Sunday’s (13th May) opening race. Lloyd posted a scorching time of 50.823secs to fend of local driver Aiden Moffat by just 0.251s.

Andreas Backman, in the second West Coast Racing Volkswagen looked odds on to take third position on the grid, only for Ollie Taylor to find a scintillating lap behind the wheel of his Pyro Motorsport Honda Civic Type-R TCR car, demoting the young Swede to fourth place by just 0.684s.

The first of the TCR UK races starts at 10.25am and will see an open grid walk take place from 10.05am – which is free to all spectators. The second race of the day will take place at 14.24pm and will see Sean Walkinshaw lead from pole position.

TCR UK Series testing recap https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2018/05/tcr-uk-series-testing-recap/ Fri, 11 May 2018 18:27:55 +0000 http://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2018/05/ The TCR UK Series cars headed out onto track for the first time today – in four test sessions allowing drivers and teams a chance to acclimatise to the tricky twists and dips of the Knockhill Reverse Circuit.

TCREventVideoGraphic

Round one winner, Dan Lloyd set the early running in the opening practice sessions whist his closest rival from that opening round, Aiden Moffat suffered a torrid return to his home track – which required the front end of his Alfa Romeo Giulietta to be rebuilt.

Despite the team’s woes, Moffat made the final test session of the day, and went on to record the third fastest time of the session behind Lloyd and Knockhill newcomer Andreas Backman.

Tomorrow’s TCR action on track includes a Free Practice session, getting underway at 9.55am, before an extremely important qualifying session at 14.55pm will set the grid for the opening race of the weekend on Sunday 13th May.

Tickets for the event can be booked online via the Knockhill.com website, with all pre-booked tickets subject to advanced booking discounts. Alternatively, tickets will also be available on either Saturday or Sunday at the gate.

National Formula Ford at Knockhill this weekend https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2018/05/national-formula-ford-at-knockhill-this-weekend/ Fri, 11 May 2018 13:22:14 +0000 http://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2018/05/ The Avon Tyres National Formula Ford Championship heads to Knockhill this weekend for another round of races on the Reverse Circuit. A strong 19 car grid featuring a number of seasoned campaigners facing-off against a whole host of talented youngsters should provide plenty of thrilling close open-wheeled racing for fans this weekend.

ISP_7956

Some of the National competitors have already raced around Knockhill, joining the ranks of the Scottish Formula Ford last weekend for some full-on testing in race conditions. Ross Martin, took one of the victories last weekend, and despite being unable to complete a full National season, is looking forward to testing his skills against some very fast racers. He spoke to Duncan Vincent about his progress so far.

Indeed, another youngster looking to improve on his performances last week is Matt Round-Garrido. Matt won one of the races last week and was a persistent thorn in Martin’s side all weekend. Also on the bill last weekend – using the SMRC event as a glorified test session – were a number of the Cliff Dempsey racing squad. Dunc caught up with the team principal and another young Scott, Jamie Thorburn.

The Avon Tyres Formula Ford Championship will race on three occasions over the weekend, with qualifying and one race on Saturday and the subsequent two races on Sunday 13th May.

Tickets for the event can be booked online via the Knockhill.com website, with all pre-booked tickets subject to advanced booking discounts. Alternatively, tickets will also be available on either Saturday or Sunday at the gate.

It promises to be a fast and frantic weekend of racing and we hope you’ll join us for some thrilling action as we host the TCR UK series for the first time.
