We are honoured to be hosting one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time at Rewind on Sunday 28th May as GRAND PRIX LEGEND Randy Mamola will be at Knockhill all day. Randy was the 500cc Vice-World Champion in 1980, 81, 84 and 87 and is widely regarded as one of the best to have raced in that era. It is your chance to meet and chat with this legend of racing and maybe get an autograph and selfie too!

On track, there will be 130 competitors fighting it out in the seven different championships. Off-track, and in the pit lane garages, we will have quality added interest as there will be a display of show bikes from the 70s, 80s and 90s. In addition to Randy, we will be confirming a line-up of more stars who will be attending too – so put the date in your diary now and keep an eye on the Knockhill social media and mailings for the list of stars and iconic bikes on show.

If you love bikes, retro bikes and Scottish Championship racing, you will not want to miss the return of our Rewind Festival!

Knockhill Announce Partnership with Carbon Positive Motorsport https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2023/05/knockhill-announce-partnership-with-carbon-positive-motorsport/ Wed, 10 May 2023 10:29:16 +0000 https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/?p=25224

May 9, 2023

Knockhill Racing Circuit and Carbon Positive Motorsport are delighted to announce a long term partnership to mitigate the Racing Circuit’s unavoidable carbon emissions.

Knockhill Racing Circuit and Carbon Positive Motorsport have decided to work together in an innovative long-term partnership, that will progressively mitigate the unavoidable carbon emissions generated through competition at the circuit.

The first step of this partnership and the circuit’s environmental road map, will be to provide three circuit championship events with an easy-to-use carbon offsetting option that equates to the average expected fuel consumption from the type of championship car.

The partnership will provide full carbon positive levels of offsetting for all competitors in the 2023 Super Lap Scotland Championship, with the option for all Legends and Modified Sports Championship competitors to access a significantly discounted rate via the circuit’s entries system.

In addition, competitors and spectators travelling to the circuit will be given an easy-to-use online discount code, which will enable them to contribute to the offsetting level achieved by the circuit.

All carbon offsetting will be provided through 100% Woodland Carbon Code certified offsetting projects based in Scotland, which are set to deliver the promised levels of offsetting by 2047.

Speaking about the partnership with Carbon Positive Motorsport, Stuart Gray, Knockhill Director of Events said, “Knockhill Racing Circuit are delighted to be teaming up with the Knockhill Motor Sports Club to fully offset the competition activities of their unique Super Lap Scotland championship in 2023.

“We have worked with Carbon Positive Motorsport with our McRae Rally Challenge in 2022 and we are pleased to make this move as a signal of our intent that by 2025, all of Knockhill Motor Sports Club’s competitor racing will be offset by meaningful and worthwhile carbon offsetting projects, here in Scotland.

Their end-to-end carbon offsetting projects are amongst the best anywhere in the UK and supporting them is a continuation of the management of Knockhill Racing Circuit to extend its active sustainability measures.”

Paul Glass, founder of Carbon Positive Motorsport, added: “We are really honoured to be entering into a partnership with Knockhill Racing Circuit, building on our work together on last year’s Beatsons Building Supplies McRae Rally Challenge.

“I have been incredibly impressed by Stuart and the team’s genuine commitment to addressing the environmental impact and perception of our sport – they are leading the movement by circuits to provide offsetting of unavoidable emissions as an integral part of competing.

“Many perceive us as working just with rallying, which is far from the truth. We exist as a purpose-led business to serve all who are involved in any motorsport discipline, to help ensure that motorsport and the environment are sustainable for future generations to enjoy.’’

Find out more about carbon offsetting for motorsport, with this Sky News Climate Show feature from the Beatsons Building Supplies Mull Rally.

It only costs a little to make a big difference for the sport, so whether you’re a competitor or spectator, why not join with us to help make motorsport sustainable.

Scottish Bike Racing and Rewind festival recap https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2016/06/scottish-bike-racing-and-rewind-festival-recap/ Wed, 08 Jun 2016 09:49:48 +0000 http://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2016/06/ A blistering weekend of sunshine welcomed the latest rounds of the Scottish and KMSC bike racing Championships to Knockhill, which featured a bumper 142 rider entry for the first Reverse Circuit meeting of the season. Additionally the paddocks were filled with the sights and sounds of iconic 2-wheeled machinery from the 70s, 80s and 90s – as part of our third running Rewind Festival.

KMSC Club President Niall Mackenzie was also on hand to witness the racing and generally catch up with the Club; however, more importantly for him, it was an ideal opportunity to debut his Yamaha RD400 which he has painstakingly restored over the past 15 months. Here’s what he a had to say after the first trackday session of the day:

ISP_3013

“I always wanted to own one back in my youth (an RD400) and managed to find this bike, as scrap really about 15 months ago, and did a complete nut and bot restoration on it; today’s actually the first time I’ve rode it and it’s mint, absolutely perfect.

“You know it’s great to come and see some of these old bikes, some of them more than 40 years old. A soon as you see them, hear them and smell them they bring back so many memories from back in the day.

“It’s also great to come back up for catch up; our Club’s in a great place right now, there’s a lot of trust been built up with all those people who have supported it throughout the years; it has a real family atmosphere about it, the grids are filling up and we’re attracting more youngsters to the sport… and honestly, I’ve been blown away by the standard of machinery and attention to detail out there; everyone’s making a massive effort and I certainly really appreciate it; as does everyone at the Club.”

Niall certainly enjoyed his ride out during the Rewind tracks sessions and was joined by a few familiar faces including young Moto3 Junior World Championship rider Rory Skinner – aboard his Dad’s stunning LC 350. Rory was also on hand to pick up a sponsorship cheque from Alan Duffus – who along with his team and joined in the festivities to celebrate 40 years in business; whilst offering demonstrator rides aboard some of Yamaha’s latest flagship models to prospective customers in the paddock.

As for the racing action on track, the blistering sunshine provided ideal racing conditions for each of the seven championship classes; here’s a quick run down of what happened in each class over the course of the weekend.

Superbike and Clubman supported by Scotwaste:

ISP_2728

It was the usual suspects in the Superbike class at the head of the field – Bruce Birnie, John Dean and Andrew Tasker provided another round of thrilling race action with approximately 1 second splitting the one-two finishers in each race. Birnie help the trump card this weekend taking three wins to Tasker’s two and setting the fastest time of the weekend, by posting a 50.939 sec lap during the final outing of the day. John Dean had to settle for three 3rd placed podiums whilst Kris Duncan secured his best two finishes of the season, ending up on the 3rd placed podium spot on two separate occasions.

A few highlights from the weekend:

In the Clubman series, it was a breakthrough weekend for both Graeme Bodel and Des Burns – taking out-right Clubman victories on-the-road, a welcome relief for both riders following a number of seasons in this class. Bodel triumphed in three races and followed that up with a number of strong podium spots for undoubtedly his best-ever KMSC points haul from a weekend. Burns took victory in one race with Rod Scott taking the other. Elsewhere, Kenny Paterson and David Prentice shared the remaining 3rd placed podiums by a score of four to one in Paterson’s favour.

ISP_1857

In the Bitwise supported Superstock 600 Championship, there was a new name to add to the mix this weekend; Ryan Watson, back to bike racing following a 2 year sabbatical; the former BSB GP125 and Spanish Moto3 Championship runner, took the fight to the stand-out competitors in this class this weekend – Lewis Rollo, Ewan Gray and Paul McClung. Indeed, he even managed to secure a win on only his second outing aboard his Grant Racing supported machine following his return to racing this season. Ewan Gray also managed to wrestle a victory from Lewis Rollo who suffered some gearbox issues this weekend, and now faces a race against time to be ready for the BSB in two weeks time (24-26 June). In terms of times, this weekend saw four riders drop into that 51 second bracket – Lewis Rollo, Paul McClung (both consistently) and Ryan Watson and Callum Grigor. That all bodes well for the remainder of the season and if Watson, Grigor and Gray can add consistency to their game we might be in for a thrilling Superstock 600 season.

In the Scottish/Lightweight class sponsored by Shirlaw’s Motorcycles the race victories went to Paul McClung, who stole a march on his fellow competitors to seal all five on-the-road race wins aboard his ex-Dan Kneen Kawasaki. Following behind McClung on-the-road was Gillian McGaw in three of the races with Kris Duncan adding yet more silverware to his season’s tally with a couple of 2nd placed podiums on the day. The same pairing also took a brace of 3rd placed podiums each with Keith Dickie making a solitary appearance on the podium to round out the silverware winners. In the Fomrula 400 class, Ashley Robson maintained her fine run of form, securing her tenth straight win of the season.

Lewis Shand has been the dominant force in the Pre-Injection 600 class sponsored by Cupar Motorcycles this season, and that trend looks set to continue for the time-being following another multi race-winning performance from the Ladybank rider. Following Lewis home for some vital podium scores were Steven Haddow with four 2nd places (and one 3rd) and David McCafferty (2 x 3rd) and Kieran Murray two 3rd (and one 2nd) placed finishes.

ISP_1932

Rishon Hickey remains at the head of the F125 Championship, following out-right victory in five of the races this weekend. James McLaren closed the gap to within a second on the Sunday but still had to settle for four 2nd placed trophies for his weekend’s work. Lewis Nicol, Cameron McPherson and Marc Gibson all stood on the 3rd placed rostrum over the weekend.

ISP_2102

The weekend also saw a healthy entry for the Open Post Classic and Classic category with 10 entries aboard a variety of machinery. However, it was Jodie Chalk onboard her Honda CBR500 who would walk away with the majority of the race wins (four); with Neil Munro being her closest rival taking one win and three 2nd places over the course of the weekend. Dan James and Jimmy Shanks split the remaining podium spaces three to one!

Scottish Bike Racing and 2016 Rewind Festival https://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2016/05/scottish-bike-racing-and-2016-rewind-festival/ Tue, 31 May 2016 15:11:55 +0000 http://www.knockhill.com/wordpress/2016/05/ The next rounds of the Scottish and KMSC Bike Racing Championships take place at Knockhill this weekend (Sat 4th and Sun 5th June). Aside from a full-on 31-race programme fans will also be able to take a trip down memory lane as we host our third Rewind Festival – featuring bikes from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Rewind_FBEvent_Header

Knockhill Club president, Naill Mackenzie will also be on site and on track aboard some of his all-time favourite machinery (Fizzy’s and LCs – as he puts it). Our two 15 minute track sessions for Rewind bikes have sold out, however you could still be part of event, joining up to 66 classic bike enthusiasts in the paddock who’ll all be displaying their bikes. It’s only £5 to show your bike – Knockhill Rewind Booking Form(1) – and you could have your bike lined up alongside a gaggle of classic machinery from the likes of Yamaha, Honda, Aprilia, Kennymoto, Suzuki and more. And, with the MCE British Superbike only a couple of weeks away, Niall has arranged to bring up his BSB Championship-winning Boost bike; which will be on display this weekend and at Supebike event.

Here’s a link to the complete list of bikes attending the Rewind Festival so far… remember you could get involved with your bike; you can also keep tabs on our Facebook event feed on the lead up to the weekend – Facebook Event.

The main track activity at the event will of course be the 31 Scottish and KMSC Championship races, featuring races from six different Championship classes including:

– Scottish/KMSC Championship Superbikes & KMSC Clubman – Sponsored by Scotwaste
– -Scottish/KMSC Championship Superstock 600 – Sponsored by Bitwise
– Scottish/KMSC Championship Lightweights – Sponsored by Shirlaws Motorcycles
– KMSC/National Pre Injection 600 – Sponsored by Cupar Motorcycles
– KMSC 125s Sponsored by Skinner Motorcycles
– KMSC Open Post Classics / Classics

In the Scotwaste Superbike and Clubman series, a number of riders will be looking to adjust to life back on track following a stint on the roads at the North West 200 – Donald MacFadyen, Bruce Birnie, Adrian Clark and Kris Duncan; with all three strong contenders for podiums this weekend. However, they’ll have to bring their A-game to the 40-point gap between Birnie (3rd) and Andrew Tasker and John Dean at the head of the field.

In the Superstock 600 races sponsored by Bitwise, expect Lewis Rollo to continue his fine form as he heads towards his first BSB home encounter on 24 to 26 June. The young teenage racer has impressed in his first season aboard 600cc machinery and has even claimed his first National win this season at Oulton Park. He should face some stiff competition this weekend from the likes of Paul McClung, Callum Grigor and Sean Cooper – making his first KMSC outing this season. Also on the grid for the Superstock 600 races is young Irish racer Korie McGreevy – making his KMSC debut at Knockhill this weekend.

Here’s a look back at what happened at the first event of the year in the Scotwaste Superbike and Clubman Class:

A total of 142 riders will take to the track this weekend, a new record for a Knockhill Motor Sports Club reverse circuit meeting. Action will take place both days with practice, qualifying and racing on Saturday; and another race-heavy schedule on Sunday – as well as the Rewind Festival.

We would like to send our thanks to the Edinburgh Watch Company Founder Jonathan Gilbert (pictured with SLS Coordinator Rory Butcher).
