BTCC ace Shedden tackles Spa 24-Hours

Less than a week after he bagged his second win of the season in the British Touring Car Championship, Dalgety Bay’s Gordon Shedden bids for further glory in the Spa 24-Hours race behind the wheel of a Ferrari.

And the 29-year-old, who won Sunday’s BTCC race at Oulton Park, will team up with fellow Fifer Andrew Kirkaldy in the two-car CR Scuderia team in this weekend’s race, the latest counter in the FIA World GT Championship.

“It’s going to be a bit of a change from driving my Team Halfords Honda in touring cars,” Shedden explained as his team prepared for today’s qualifying session at the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.

“It’s a terrific opportunity to drive in a 24-hours race and it’s great to be working alongside Andrew who is known as one of the fastest sportscar drivers in the business.”

While Shedden will partner team boss Chris Niarchos, Tim Mullen and Andrea Piccini in the N055 Ferrari F430GT, St Andrews racer Kirkaldy will lead the No56 car’s assault alongside Rob Bell and Dirk Müller.

“I’m sure Gordon will find his place fast and settle in,” Niarchos said. “It’s about preservation of equipment, not all out speed, and I think we are all smart enough to do a great job at Spa.”
