Rangers will start a disappointing 15th on the 17-car grid for the opening round of the inaugural Superleague Formula at Donington Park after the team suffered a series of technical problems in qualifying.
“It’s not been the ideal build-up to the opening race,” Wishaw’s Ryan Dalziel, who will pilot the Rangers car in both tomorrow’s races, said today. “We were third quickest in Thursday’s testing, then we had technical issues and now we’re playing catch-up
“We tried a couple of new things in qualifying and that sent us backwards, so we’ll revert to the set-up we had on Thursday and take it from there.”
Seven days after the Beijing Olympics finished, China continued its headline-grabbing performances when Chinese team Beijing Guoan became the first football club to score a Superleague Formula pole position.
The team’s David Rigon, the current Euro 3000 champion, outpaced Sevilla’s Borja Garcia in the final head-to-head one-lap shoot-out.
Rigon defeated PSV Eindhoven’s Yelmer Buurman in his semi-final, while Garcia knocked out the Olympiacos car of Kasper Anderson in his. Ex-GP2 racer Buurman will start third on the grid thanks to outpacing Anderson throughout qualifying.
