Edinburgh’s Robin Liddell will have to battle his way through the field if he is to win the Rolex Grand-Am GT Series, at the Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, after his team-mate Andrew Davis qualified their Stevenson Pontiac GXP.R 10th on the grid.
But the Scot, who starts this weekend’s final round of the championship second in the GT battle just six points behind the leaders, isn’t phased by the challenge of 139 laps of the 4.486-mile, 24-turn circuit over six-hours and 45-minutes.
“There’s a long, long way to go in the race, so qualifying position isn’t too important,” Liddell admitted, despite the fact the championship leaders Paul Edwards and Kelly Collins start fourth in their Pontiac.
“To be honest we concentrated more on getting the car set-up correctly for the race. I know there’s more to come from the car, so our race pace should be excellent. We’re well fired up for the fight.”
