F1 test complete, now for DTM finale

Bathgate’s Paul Di Resta completed his second two-day test with the McLaren Formula One team at Silverstone and believes he has helped his friend Lewis Hamilton become world champion.

“We were working on developing the car mainly for next season, but we also spent a little while on developments for the remainder of this season,” the 22-year-old explained.  “Of course I can’t say too much, but I think we might have found something which might help Lewis go a little bit quicker in Brazil next weekend.”

And the talented young Scot, a member of the Mercedes-Benz Young Driver Development Programme and who is tipped to graduate to a seat in the Mercedes-powered Force India team next season, believes he further enhanced his reputation.

“I picked up very quickly from where I left off a couple of weeks ago,” he continued. “We had a base line from which to work from and within a few laps I was faster than I had been previously.

“Though the weather was very poor on the first day, we got a load of running 24 hours later and everybody within the team was happy with what we achieved. Personally I’m also satisfied that I’ve shown everyone again just what I can do in an F1 car.”

Di Resta is now in Germany preparing for this weekend’s German Touring Car Championship finale at Hockenheim. The Scot starts the final race just two points behind the Audi of German Timo Scheider.
