Shedden clinches BTCC drive

Fifer Gordon Shedden has sealed a last-minute deal to extend his partnership with Team Dynamics in the British Touring Car Championship. The 30-year-old from Dalgety Bay will again drive the team’s Honda Civic.

“It’s a mega deal,” Shedden, who won twice last season and now joins Kirkcaldy’s Jonathan Adam on the 21-car BTCC grid, admitted today. “It’s taken a lot of hard work, but I’ve got there.

“The current financial problems within the economy has made finding sponsorship tough, but thankfully I’ve received funding and support from a group of private individuals who really believe in me. So it’s all down to them really.”

Knockhill director Shedden, who will be partnered by England’s Dave Pinkney in the Dynamics team, immediately showed he’ll be on the pace when he set the fifth-fastest time in the first official practice at Rockingham yesterday.

“Given that we’ve really only had a couple of days to shake the new car down, we’re really chuffed with our pace straight out of the box,” he continued. “And we know we’ll be even quicker by the time we get to the first round at Brands Hatch next month.”

Adam meanwhile, who will be making his BTCC debut this year after winning back-to-back Seat Cupra Championships, unveiled a new sponsor today. His newly-branded Airwaves BMW will be sponsored by global chewing gum giant Wrigleys.

“It’s a massive deal for us,” the 26-year-old Scot said. “To attract such a major sponsor as Wrigleys to the BTCC shows just how important the championship is on a global level.”
