Scotland’s brightest young rally ace, Dumfries 22-year-old David Bogie, heads to Jedburgh tomorrow confident he can take another significant step towards winning the Hankook Scottish Rally Championship.
Bogie, who battled through the deep snow in the opening round, the Inverness-based Snowman Rally, to finish fourth last month is keen to get his Mitsubishi Evo 9 back on to the fast, demanding Borders stages.
“ I’ve done the Border Counties twice before and they are fast stages which I enjoy,” the Scot explained today. “My aim’s quite simple for the weekend; to come away with maximum Scottish championship points. I think it’s well within my grasp.”
Bogie though will be hoping to avoid the disaster which hit him in last year’s Border Counties Rally and which ultimately cost him the title. The youngster finished well down the order after rolling his car negotiating a tricky bend on the Ogre Hill stage
Meanwhile points leader Reay Mackay and co-driver Robert Macdonald, who took advantage of running well down the field to win the Snowman after the earlier cars had cleared away the snow, admits he’s unlikely to repeat that success.
“It’s definitely not going to be easy this time. I think everybody has expectations of us now after winning, but we’ll just go with our usual relaxed attitude and have a crack at it,” the Fort Augustus driver said.
