Bathgate’s Dario Franchitti, a winner on the streets of Long Beach in California last Sunday, was fourth-fastest in pre-qualifying ahead of tomorrow’s first oval race of the season in Kansas.
The 35-year-old Scot, who leads the championship by 15 points from Australian Will Power, clocked a best lap on the 1.5-mile oval of 25.9653secs, an average speed of 210.743mph.
“We’ll get quicker,” 2007 IndyCar champ Franchitti said. “We know there’s more to come. But the main thing is we know we have an excellent race car set up for tomorrow.”
Franchitti’s Team Ganassi team-mate and defending champ, Kiwi Scott Dixon, topped the timesheets with a fastest lap of 25.8989s (211.283mph), just 0.0212s ahead of Brazilian Tony Kanaan’s Andretti Green car.
