Scots cars fill two of the front five slots on the grid for the first of tomorrow’s British Touring Car Championship triple-header at Oulton Park in Cheshire.
While former champ Jason Plato — who clocked a best of 1min 27.186secs round the 2.2-mile circuit — led a Chevrolet lock-out of the front row alongside his team-mate Mat Jackson, there were notable first for the Scots.
Glasgow-based Clyde Valley Racing celebrated as Adam Jones qualified his Seat Leon fourth on the 21-car grid, while Kirkcaldy’s Jonathan Adam lines his BMW up one place behind in fifth.
“Adam, and the rest of the team did a fantastic job,” Clyde Valley team boss Colin Neill said. “Starting so far up the grid gives us a terrific opportunity to score at least a couple of podiums this weekend.”
Fifer Jonathan Adam meanwhile, controversially denied a race win in the opening round at Brands Hatch after he was penalised after a clash with Plato, is determined to break his winning duck.
“The BMWs always go well here,” Adam, whose team-mate Rob Collard starts ninth, explained, “and I’m confident we have a race-winning car this weekend. If I can stay out of trouble, then yes, I can win here.”
Championship leader Matt Neal, who believes Adam’s BMW will be the car to beat, qualified 10th, four places behind his Vauxhall team-mate, double champ Fabrizio Giovanardi.
