Bathgate’s Paul Di Resta returns to action in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) after a four-week break just three points off the lead and determined to notch his first win of the year.
“We’ve been solid if unspectacular through the opening two races of the season,” the 22-year-old Mercedes-Benz driver admitted today as he prepared for this weekend’s race at the 1.5-mile Norisring circuit in Nuremberg.
“I know the team have been working tirelessly over the past four weeks developing the car, so I’m confident we’re going to be fast this weekend and be pushing for that first win of the season.
“It’s the only race on a street circuit of the DTM season and that makes it a very special event. It’s our Monaco Grand Prix and the atmosphere is incredible. It would be a terrific race to win.
“Mercedes has won six in a row since 2003, so it would be great to continue that record. Of course, because it’s a street circuit qualifying is crucial because overtaking is so difficult. We’ll be putting everything into grabbing pole position.”
Di Resta is currently three points behind the Audi of defending champion Timo Scheider, with the German’s Danish team-mate Tom Kristensen just two points behind alongside the Merc of England’s Gary Paffett.
