Scots racer Glynn Geddie continued his march towards the Porsche Carrera Cup Pro-Am1 Championship when he won the latest double-header at Silverstone.
With just two rounds and four races remaining, the 19-year-old from Aberdeen in only his first full season racing, leads his nearest rival Robert Lawson by nine points.
Geddie, driving his 420bhp Team Parker Porsche 911 in tricky, damp conditions, not only took two class victories, but also bagged two pole positions, two fastest laps plus a fourth and a second overall beating many far more experienced racers.
“It’s been another terrific weekend,” Geddie, coached by former British and European Porsche champ Barry Horne from Dunfermline and backed by controldriving.com, admitted.
“That’s six victories in a row now, so things are clicking perfectly for the climax to the season. Everything’s still pretty tight with Robert, but we certainly have the momentum. Now we have to keep it to the end of the season.”
In the latest British Touring Car Championship triple-header at Silverstone all three races were won by Chevrolets with Mat Jackson taking two and former champ Jason Plato the other.
In the battle for the championship, former Knockhill race instructor Colin Turkington takes his RAC BMW to Rockingham in three weeks defending a slender 11-point advantage over the Vauxhall of double champ Fabrizio Giovanardi.
There was frustration for Scots veteran Anthony Reid. On his BTCC comeback driving a third RAC BMW, the 52-year-old crashed out on the third lap of the opening race before finishing 14th and 12th in the final two.
“A tough weekend, but really that’s what I expected because I was carrying the maximum 45kg ballast,” Glsgow-born Reid, whose retirement in the opening race followed a clash with Tom Onslow-Cole’s Ford Focus. “I’ll be lighter, and quicker at Rockingham.”
