Defending IndyCar champ Dario Franchitti warmed up for the second round of the championship in St Petersburg by powering his Target Ganassi car to the second-fastest time in practice.
The 36-year-old from Bathgate, seventh in the opening round in Brazil a fortnight ago, finished just 0.032 seconds behind the Penske of Will Power. The Australian, who won two weeks ago in Sao Paulo, clocked a best of 1min 03.6741secs.
“We’ve clearly go a car capable of winning this weekend,” Franchitti, whose best finish at the 1.8-mile circuit in Florida is third, said today. “It’s fair to say that St. Pete is a race I’d really like to win this season.”
