Fife racer Gordon Shedden has continued the fine form he showed at Knockhill Racing Circuit a few weeks back to take victory and a 2nd place finish in the opening races at Donington today. Shedden looking to further improve his title standing claimed victory in an action packed first race leading home the Team Aon Ford of Tom Chilton.
Shedden’s win becomes even more significant considering that championship leader Jason Plato failed to finish after crashing out. Plato’s demise came on lap 12 in a five-car pile-up at the chicane, his Chevrolet Cruze crashing into the barriers with broken steering. Elsewhere, his other title rivals, Honda’s Matt Neal and Aon’s Tom Onslow-Cole, who were both caught up in the same incident, finished fifth and eighth.
Shedden: “That opening race was one of the toughest wins. Onslow-Cole was in front but was braking very early and stacking me back into Chilton so he could keep having a go. I had to make my move and it paid off but phew!
“As for race two, l’m just delighted to be on the podium again, l had the same results last time out at Knockhill and failed to make significant ground on the leaders, but this weekend has thrown me right into the mix. I need a solid drive and a healthy slice of luck in the final race to really propel myself into contention,” said a beaming Shedden.
