Dunfermline racer Craig Brunton came within an inch of winning the 2010 Formula Ford title today after an unfortunate mechanical failure for 2nd placed Ken Thirlwall forced him to retire whilst leading. The Formula Ford newcomer looked set to record a double win before the unfortunate incident. Thirlwall looked set to push Brunton all the way to the wire in the championship race and will be left to rue a disappointing end to a promising campaign.
Brunton however will still have to secure 4 points from the next meeting to win the championship, “Ideally l wanted to go to the Formula Ford Festival that weekend, but l’ll need to be here as the Championship must come first. It’s unfortunate for Ken as he was going well, but l’m delighted l was able to pick up the pieces and claim the win,” said Brunton.
Knockhill Circuit Manager Ian Forrest who was competing in the FFDR Mini Cooper Cup commented: “I really enjoyed getting back out there and trying to do the live commentary whilst racing was quite taxing. It’s been a good experience and one which l would certainly ‘try’ again.”
Elsewhere at Knockhill there were wins for Oly Mortimer (Mini), Peter Taddei (Sports & Saloons) and Stan Bernard (Classic Sports & Saloons).
The concluding round of the 2010 Scottish Championship season takes place at Knockhill on Sunday 17th October. With a number of championships still in the balance we’d recommend you make your way to Knockhill to see all the action.

Thirlwall a Formula Ford newcomer looked set to record a double win before the unfortunate incident. The Haddington based racer, who was tipped to push Brunton all the way to the wire in the championship race will be left to rue a disappointing end to a promising campaign.
Brunton however now claims the 2010 Scottish Formula Ford Championship, ” It’s unfortunate for Ken as he was going well, but l’m delighted l was able to pick up the pieces and claim the win,” said Brunton.
