This weekend at Knockhill Racing Circuit see’s the culmination of the 2010 Scottish Championship car racing season. Several Championships will be going down to the wire and the hotly contested Formula Ford 1600 Newcomers title will be the coveted prize of the weekend.
Not only does the championship title herald a promising future in single seater racing, but also offers the winner the chance to test a Formula Renault, often regarded as a stepping stone to Formula One. The testing session, courtesy of CRS Scuderia which is run by St Andrews racer Andrew Kirkcaldy could propel the lucky winner up the motor sport ranks.
“It’s an absolutely fantastic prize, it could quite easily lead the winner on to the National stage and who-knows maybe even beyond,” commented Stuart Gray, Knockhill Events Director.
Elsewhere on track, the latest TV personality to set forth on to the Knockhill tarmac in the celebrity Mini in the FFDR Mini Cooper Cup will be TV quiz show know-it-all CJ. CJ, who stars on the popular EGGHEADS TV show, will don his race overalls and try to compete for wins in the Mini Cooper Cup. CJ has under-taken his racing licence at Knockhill this year and will now make his racing debut on Sunday 17th October.
“I think l much prefer the glare of the TV studio than that of the other drivers on the grid. Knockhill were on the show earlier this year (which will be screened shortly) and l managed to get some good pointers off camera… well l’m hoping they were good,” said CJ.
A full programme of Scottish Championship races will be on offer including action from Scottish Legends, Sports & Saloons, Fiesta ST and XR2 with action getting under-way from 10:30am on Sunday 17th October.
Another major highlight of the weekend will be the 30 or so classic cars competing in the Classic Sports and Saloon Championship. The series has been well supported all year long and heading into the final weekend of the season the top two racers are separated by a slender 5 points. Both Stan Bernard in his Porsche 911 and John Marshall in his Ford Escort will be looking for strong performances this weekend to secure the 2010 Championship title.
Advanced tickets are available via Knockhill.com, tickets will also be available at the venue over the weekend.
