With barely a matter of a few weeks having passed since the end of the 2010 season, the team at Knockhill are already underway with track safety works in preparation for 2011.
The biggest changes will see the run off area at the famous first corner being extended giving both car and bike racers an extra margin for error. Circuit Manager Ian Forrest, pictured here, said “the speeds of race machinery just gets faster and faster with the bikes reaching around 170mph, so the extra run off and shaping of the banking will make it even safer for competitors, should the worst happen. In addition, it has given us the opportunity to extend and re-profile the spectator banking which will further improve the viewing at the corner.”
The 2011 season is due to kick off with a Scottish Championship bike meeting on April 3rd, with the crowd favourites of the British Superbikes on June 18th / 19th and Touring Cars on September 3rd / 4th.
