The Northern Saloons and Sports Car Championship makes another visit to Knockhill this weekend, where it will compete on both Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May (as part of the Modified Live event).
The championship was started in 1997 by Darlington & District Motor Club and this weekend is the first time NSSCC has raced in both directions at Knockhill, it is something that their drivers have been looking forward to.
Stirling based, Andrew Morrison (Seat Cupra) is sharing the top spot in the championship with Simon Mayne (Fisher Fury). Neither driver can take any respite with the BMW pairing of Paul Brydon and Mike Cutt just waiting to take any opportunity offered to change the championship positions. Although Paul and Mike both drive BMW M3 they run in different classes Paul (A1) preferring slick tyres and Mike (B) treads.

NSSCC Webpoints Round 4 after croft
Additionaly, this weekend will also see three 4×4 Off-Road racers completing on-track demonstartion runs. All three cars are land rover based Bowler Tomcats. Two are 88″ wheel base running a 4.0ltr V8 and a 4.6ltr V8 running at about 230 & 300bhp. The third is a 100″ wheel base with a BMW 3.0ltr V6 twin turbo diesel, running at about 320bhp. All have glass fibre body shells and full roll cage mounted to modified Landrover Chassis’. All are running on Fox Racing Shox giving about 12′ suspension travel and custom setup for the individual car.
Modified Live on Sunday will also see an Ex Nelson Piquet – Benetton B190 Formula 1 – car take to the track for several live demonstration runs. Piquet finished 3rd in the 1990 Formula One drivers’ Championship behind the wheel of the Benetton; and we’re all looking forward to some really fast laps from the F1 racer.
Elsewhere, there will also be family features; including a bouncy castle, trampoline and, of course, our recently re-vamped play park. So, bring the whole family along to Modified Live on Sunday 25th May. Alternatively, if you have plans on Sunday, come along tomorrow (Saturday); we’ll still have plenty of action on track, and better still, adult admission is only £5.
