Super Lap Scotland | 2016 Provisonal Regulations

I’m delighted to announce that we are now in a position to release the Provisional 2016 Super Lap Scotland Regulations and these can be viewed via the link at the bottom of the page. It’s an exciting moment and we hope this gives everyone enough time to build their cars to their chosen class specification and obtain the correct licencing with lots of time to spare!!

Overview

In 2016 Super Lap Scotland will be adopting elements of the MSA Time Attack UK regulations which will be published in the Blue Book, as a whole they are much the same as our current regs with a few subtle changes, which we believe will take the series another step forward. We elected to do this so we can have more flexibility in how we run the event as well as a much clearer, easier to use licencing structure. The great thing is we get to keep our Power to Weight class tier system which has become a real strong point of the series!!  Overall it’s a positive move for us making it easier for new and current competitors to understand.

With the new regulations there will be some differences from 2015 and to help everyone understand how the championship will shape up in 2016 I have provided a brief explanation of any changes that will be implemented below.

Event Format

  • In 2016 the whole SLS event will be run under MSA Permit including morning practice, so no track day rules will apply.
  • Every car must be scrutineered prior to entering their first practice session of each event day.
  • For qualifying the SLS grid will be split into groups of 15 cars (maximum) and take part in timed qualifying sessions approximately 15 minutes in duration. We hope this will take away the waiting in pit lane between runs and create more exciting viewing for our spectators. As per 2015, morning practice will consist of 2 x 15 minute sessions and the Super Lap Final will be sticking with its 1 flying lap format.

Power to Weight

  • The class structure and power to weight tiers are exactly the same as the 2015 championship with the introduction of the, new for 2016, Class F. This will provide a level playing field for our entry level competitors!

Scoring

With SLS growing in popularity the 2016 scoring system will allow the top 15 competitors score points in both Qualifying and the Final. We hope this will create even closer competition. See below;

  • Qualifying: 15 – 14 – 13 – 12 – 11 – 10 – 9 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1
  • Super Lap Final: 25 – 20 – 16 – 14 – 12 – 10 – 9 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1

Licencing

  • Pro Class drivers must obtain a Race National B Licence. Pro class drivers can acquire an MSA Race Licence by completing their ARDS assessment at Knockhill Racing Circuit. Please call the circuit on 01383 723337 for further info.
  • Class A-F drivers can compete with a Non-Race National B Licence (can be applied for on the day of the event)

Tyres

The MSA Blue Book specifies that;

  • Pro class cars can use tyres from list 1a/b/c (Time Attack Pro Regulations)
  • Classes F-A can only run list 1a/b (Time Attack Club Regulations)

HANS Devices

  • Competitors who have cars that are Modified Production or Sports Libre must acquire a frontal head restraint otherwise known as a HANS Device.

Car Safety

  • Modified Production cars must have roll cages and 5 point harnesses (do NOT need to be in date).
  • Sports Libre cars must have in date FIA Homologated 5 Point Harnesses.
